Fantastic Four Actors Want These X-Men & Avengers to Join Their Team

The Fantastic Four: First Steps cast revealed which Marvel characters they’d recruit to join their team, naming several surprising X-Men picks. While Black Panther and Spider-Man were popular choices, Mystique stood out as a favorite among the cast.

Two Fantastic Four actors want Mystique to join Marvel’s first family

During a Fandango interview promoting The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the main cast was asked to choose Marvel heroes to hypothetically replace their characters. Several chose X-Men, with Mystique emerging as a popular pick.

Pedro Pascal said, “I want Mystique,” while another cast member echoed, “I also like Mystique, too… she can like be whatever she wants.” Storm and Gambit were also selected, alongside other Marvel characters like Black Panther, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Black Widow. Vanessa Kirby added, “Black Widow and Yelena. Get my girls,” while Ebon Moss-Bachrach named Gambit and reaffirmed Mystique as a top pick.

The actors each chose three characters to form new teams, emphasizing both power and versatility. Black Panther emerged as the most frequently picked hero. Spider-Man, Wonder, and Hulk were also mentioned. Some cast members said their choices were influenced by the actor behind the character, as Pascal noted when selecting Hulk “mainly because it’s Mark Ruffalo.”

This fan-focused segment followed broader discussions about the film’s family dynamics and character chemistry. Joseph Quinn highlighted the cast’s off-screen bond: “We spent a long time making this film and a lot of time together… the film is called the Fantastic Four and that’s what I’m looking forward to them seeing.”

The team also spoke about the importance of each character’s role. Director Matt Shakman and the cast agreed that Ben Grimm (The Thing) was the emotional “glue” of the group. Shakman explained, “Ben’s not a blood relative… but he has tremendous emotional intelligence.”

The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces a new version of Marvel’s First Family set in a separate universe. This setting allows fresh character dynamics and paves the way for crossovers with the main MCU, including upcoming Avengers projects.
