Kevin Feige Gives Key Update on Sacha Baron Cohen’s Mephisto Return

Kevin Feige recently addressed the future of Sacha Baron Cohen’s Mephisto in the MCU. In a new press interview, he confirmed the character’s return after Ironheart and explained why Marvel waited to introduce the devilish villain. Feige also reflected on past fan theories and Mephisto’s larger role in upcoming phases.

Kevin Feige thinks Sacha Baron Cohen’s Mephisto has great potential for MCU

When asked if Marvel plans to “use more” of the character, Kevin Feige replied, “Yes.” He emphasized Mephisto’s importance, saying, “He’s a formative character… now that he’s here, the potential is clear” (via Games Radar).

At a press event, Feige addressed past speculation about Mephisto being part of WandaVision. “He was never part of WandaVision. We’ve talked about that. Matt’s talked about that. Jack Schaefer’s talked about that,” Feige said. “But the enthusiasm with which he was theorised on that was certainly cool and fun to watch.”

Feige explained why the character was difficult to adapt earlier. “He’s a devil. How do you do that character? But he’s a formative character. He was a big part of Thanos’ storyline in the comics,” he said. In the comics, Mephisto first appeared in The Silver Surfer #3 (1968) and later became part of Spider-Man’s rogues gallery and a key figure in stories involving Vision and the Scarlet Witch.

In Ironheart, Mephisto officially enters the MCU when Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) makes a mysterious deal with him in the season finale. Thorne revealed she didn’t know Cohen was playing Mephisto until after filming, suggesting Marvel intended to keep the reveal secret.

Mephisto’s arrival coincides with the transition from Phase 5 to Phase 6, as The Fantastic Four: First Steps begins a new chapter for the MCU. Feige’s comments confirm that Cohen’s portrayal will continue beyond Ironheart.

Mephisto’s future appearances remain unannounced, but Feige’s confirmation indicates he could be part of upcoming storylines in Phase 6 and beyond.
