Deathstroke & Bane DCU Movie Gets Major Update
The untitled Deathstroke & Bane movie just received a massive update.
The potential DC Universe movie was first reported to be in development back in September 2024. Matthew Orton, whose previous superhero screenwriting credits include Captain America: Brave New World and Moon Knight, was attached to write the screenplay, which is believed to center around a team-up between the two Batman villains. Now, 10 months later, it’s time for DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran to see what Orton has written.
What do we know about the Deathstroke and Bane movie?
TheWrap reporter Umberto Gonzalez revealed on The Box Office Podcast (via X) that Orton has submitted the script for the Deathstroke & Bane movie to Gunn and Safran. As Gunn has repeatedly stated in the past, no DC movie will receive a greenlight until they are 100% satisfied with the screenplay. If Orton’s script is up to snuff, there’s a strong chance that the Deathstroke & Bane movie will be one of the next DCU movies to enter production.
Deathstroke & Bane is one of three DCU movies currently in development that will center around the Batman mythology, with the other two being Clayface and The Brave and the Bold. Clayface is the furthest along in development, with a director (James Watkins), lead actor (Tom Rhys Harries), production start date (August 2025), and release date (September 11, 2026) all set.
The Brave and the Bold is a different story. While among the first 10 titles announced for the DCU, development has been shrouded in mystery ever since, with only Andy Muschietti’s appointment as director on the project being officially announced by DC Studios. Gunn has stated that an undisclosed screenwriter is working on the script for the movie, which will see Batman learning that he has fathered a son, Damian, with Talia al Ghul.
With no major updates on The Brave and the Bold, some DC fans have begun to speculate if the Dark Knight will make his live-action debut in either Clayface or Deathstroke & Bane. New plot details for Clayface have confirmed that Batman won’t appear in the R-rated horror movie, although there is still a chance he appears in Deathstroke & Bane, considering that the movie remains heavily under wraps.
Until fans learn more about the upcoming DCU movies, the next confirmed live-action appearance of Batman will be in the Elseworlds movie, The Batman Part II, which is scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
