James Gunn’s New Comments Have DCU Fans Hoping for Green Arrow Announcement

James Gunn’s recent comments about Superman have DCU fans hoping a Green Arrow project could be coming soon.

Superman is now playing in United States theaters. Written and directed by Gunn, the DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures movie stars David Corenswet as the titular superhero, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU officially launched in December 2024 with Creature Commandos. Following Superman, the next DCU project will be Peacemaker Season 2, while Lanterns, Supergirl, and Clayface are all expected to arrive in 2026.

What did James Gunn say about Superman?

Speaking with CBS Mornings, Gunn opened up about why he didn’t want Kal-El to be “all-powerful” in Superman and how this creative choice ties into other DC characters like Oliver Queen/Green Arrow.

“There are some writers in the comics, like Grant Morrison, who took the idea of the all-powerful Superman and told great stories with it,” Gunn said. “But, for me, yes. As a child, the reason I liked Batman better than Superman was because Superman was just too strong at times. We’re building a whole universe of characters. I didn’t want to have one guy who was so much stronger than anybody else that a guy with a bow and arrow didn’t matter.”

This has led fans to hope that a Green Arrow DCU announcement could be coming at some point in the near future.

While nobody has been officially cast in the DCU Oliver Queen role as of yet, the cast of Superman also includes Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica/The Engineer, and more.
