Justice League’s Cut Green Lantern Design for Zack Snyder Movie Revealed

The concept design of the deleted Green Lantern from the DCEU Justice League movie has finally been revealed, eight years after the studio version of the movie debuted in theaters. Filmmaker Zack Snyder, who worked on the project until his exit, released his cut of the film in 2021. However, it didn’t feature this character.

Jerad S. Marantz, who worked as a concept artist on Zack Snyder’s Justice League, recently took to Instagram to share the design of Green Lantern Tomar-Re for the movie. The character was slated to appear in the Snyder Cut but was ultimately left out.

“Tomar-Re ! One of my absolute favorite Green Lanterns. Almost forgot about this guy. I got the chance to do a pass on the character for Justice League a while back,” Marantz wrote in the caption.

The artist proceeded to note that the character was ultimately cut from the movie, though fans did get deceased Kilowog, another non-human Green Lantern, in the feature. Marantz added that collaborating with costume designer Michael Wilkinson was an “incredible experience.”

He continued, “Justice League was definitely a career highlight. I was able to work on some of my absolute favorite DC characters, and I was able to work with some of the industries best artists from Los Angeles and the UK.”

In DC Comics, Tomar-Re is a member of the Green Lantern Corps and a race of bird-like alien species called Xudarian. Writer John Broome and artist Gil Kane created Tomar-Re. He made his first comic-book appearance in the sixth issue of Green Lantern (Volume 2), which came out in 1961.

Tomar-Re was part of one of the planned variations of the post-credits scene of Snyder’s Justice League. However, the filmmakers ultimately decided to leave him out. He appears in 2011’s Green Lantern, featuring Ryan Reynolds. Oscar-winning actor Geoffrey Rush voices him in that movie.
