Ballerina Digital Release Date Set for John Wick Prequel

Lionsgate has announced the Ballerina release date for its first John Wick spin-off movie, starring Ana de Armas and Keanu Reeves. This comes after nearly a month since the action thriller had made its theatrical debut.

“The next chapter from the World of John Wick follows Eve Macarro, who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma. Eve seeks revenge for her father’s death, and finds herself crossing paths with John Wick himself,” reads the official synopsis.

Ballerina will be available to rent or own on digital platforms starting tomorrow, July 1. The R-rated John Wick prequel currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 76% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 279 reviews.

Besides De Armas and Reeves, the spin-off also features franchise stars Ian McShane as Winston, Anjelica Huston as The Director, and the late Lance Reddick in his last appearance as Charon. They are joined by franchise newcomers Norman Reedus as Daniel Pine, Gabriel Byrne as The Chancellor, Catalina Sandino Moreno as Lena, Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Nogi, Robert Maaser as Dex, David Casteñeda as Javier, and Choi Sooyoung of Girls’ Generation as Katla Park.

Ballerina was directed by Len Wiseman from a screenplay written by Shay Hatten. The spin-off was produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Keanu Reeves, and Chad Stahelski. It was a production by Thunder Road Films and 87eleven. The project was first announced in 2019 following the theatrical debut of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, which gave us our first look at the Ballerina assassins who are trained by the Ruska Roma syndicate led by Anjelica Huston’s character.
