Greta Gerwig’s Chronicles of Narnia Movie Delays Filming
Greta Gerwig’s Narnia movie has delayed filming.
Gerwig is currently working on a The Chronicles of Narnia movie, which is believed to be an adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ The Magician’s Nephew, for Netflix. The film is currently expected to be released in 2026 and will likely kickstart a new franchise for the streaming platform.
What is the latest update on Greta Gerwig’s Narnia movie?
Producer Amy Pascal previously told Deadline that Gerwig’s Narnia movie would start filming in July 2025. According to a recent report from Screen Daily, however, the project is still in the pre-production phase and is now “unlikely” to begin filming until sometime this fall.
This doesn’t necessarily mean that the movie will be pushed back; however, it is a possibility, as this now means the project will have to complete both production and post-production in about a year. Gerwig and her production team will have to work quickly if they still intend to keep their current release date.
Gerwig wrote the script for the movie. The cast includes Emma Mackey, Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan, and Meryl Streep as the voice of Aslan. Mark Gordon and Vincent Sieber serve as producers alongside Pascal.
A description of The Magician’s Nephew reads, “Witness the creation of a magical land in The Magician’s Nephew, the first title in C. S. Lewis’s classic fantasy series, which has captivated readers of all ages for over sixty years. On a daring quest to save a life, two friends are hurled into another world, where an evil sorceress seeks to enslave them. But then the lion Aslan’s song weaves itself into the fabric of a new land, a land that will be known as Narnia. And in Narnia, all things are possible.”
Gerwig’s Narnia movie will be given a two-week theatrical IMAX run in November 2026 before it will then hit Netflix on December 25, 2026.
