SnyderVerse’s Darkseid Actor Cast as Superman’s Father

A new update reveals a SnyderVerse actor’s return to the DC universe in a surprising Superman-related role. Actor Ray Porter, best known as Darkseid in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, now takes on a new role as Superman’s father in a recently released audio project.

Ray Porter to voice Superman’s father Jor-El after Darkseid

Ray Porter, who played Darkseid in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, now takes on a new DC role as the voice of Jor-El, Superman’s Kryptonian father, in the full-cast audiobook adaptation of All-Star Superman. Penguin Random House Audio released the audiobook on June 24, 2025, in collaboration with DC.

Zack Snyder introduced Darkseid as the mastermind behind Steppenwolf’s invasion, setting him up to pursue the Anti-Life Equation. Snyder planned a full trilogy with Darkseid as the main villain. However, the DCU reboot under James Gunn and Peter Safran halted those plans.

DC announced Porter’s return in a press release revealing the cast of All-Star Superman. Alongside Porter as Jor-El, the audiobook features Marc Thompson as Superman and Zibarro, Kristen Sieh as Lois Lane, and Christopher Smith as Lex Luthor. Other cast members include Sean Kenin Elias-Reyes, Brandon McInnis, Jessica Almasy, Pete Bradbury, and more.

Ray Porter addressed his time as Darkseid, stating he was “just grateful” to have played the role, even if only briefly. He now joins other SnyderVerse actors who have taken on new roles in the restructured DC universe. Jason Momoa will appear as Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl film.

Porter continues his relationship with DC through his role in the All-Star Superman project. DC has not confirmed Porter’s return as Darkseid in the main DCU. However, DC Studios recently announced an R-rated Mister Miracle show that references Darkseid and the Anti-Life Equation in its synopsis.

The All-Star Superman audiobook adapts the complete 12-issue run of the acclaimed graphic novel by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. It is the first in a series of upcoming audiobook adaptations of classic DC titles.
