The Boys & Countdown Actor on if He’ll Be Batman in DCU

The Boys star Jensen Ackles recently addressed the growing calls for him to play Batman in live-action and shared how he would approach the role. In a new interview, Ackles reflected on voicing the Dark Knight in animated DC films, the pressure of stepping into the cowl, and what it would take for him to join James Gunn’s DCU.

Jensen Ackles says ‘it would be hard’ to make Batman unique

In a June 2025 conversation with Collider, Jensen Ackles responded to speculation about joining James Gunn’s DCU.

When asked about the possibility, he said, “Oh, man. I don’t know.” While he has voiced the Dark Knight in several DC animated films, including The Long Halloween and Justice League: Warworld, Ackles acknowledged the challenge of making his version of Batman stand apart. “It would be hard to carve out something truly unique amongst all of the performances as Batman,” he noted.

Ackles emphasized that he would rely heavily on the vision of the creative team. “I would probably have to lean heavily on Gunn and whoever’s directing and whoever’s writing it, and get inspiration from the text,” he said.

Despite the uncertainty, he acknowledged the weight of taking on such an iconic role. “You talk about not wanting to fumble the football – that’s one that I would be nervous as hell to carry. But also proud. A certain feather in the cap.”

Ackles didn’t confirm any talks with DC Studios or James Gunn but left the door open. “Anybody who gets to wear the cowl, they got something,” he said. When told that fans were rooting for him, Ackles responded, “I’ll cross ’em, too. Just say the word.”

Fans have favored Ackles for years thanks to his roles in Supernatural, The Boys, and the new Prime Video series Countdown. He continues to build his connection to Batman through voice work, though his appearance in the DCU still remains uncertain.
