Heat 2 Gets Exciting Release Date Update for Michael Mann Sequel

A new Heat 2 update is here, with a report from World of Reel suggesting that casting for the movie is moving forward for the highly anticipated sequel to Michael Mann’s 1995 classic.

What’s the latest Heat 2 update?

According to World of Reel’s report, Warner Bros. is said to be “extremely enthusiastic” about the sequel, despite there being some hesitation about the project earlier this year. With the studio on board now, casting is officially underway for the movie. It’s still pretty much anyone’s guess as to who will be in the movie, but Heat 2 will likely follow the story of the 2022 book Mann co-wrote with Meg Gardiner.

That book follows the early days of Neil McCauley (played by Robert De Niro in the original film) and Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) as they come up. It also follows Hanna’s finding of a new threat following the ending of the original film.

Rumors have been swirling around the potential Heat 2 cast, with Austin Butler recently commenting on his potential involvement in the sequel to the iconic 1995 film. It’s also been rumored that Adam Driver — who starred in Mann’s last movie, Ferrari — could play in the upcoming film, though his casting has not been confirmed at this time.

Although neither actor has talked about the project specifically, Butler did recently praise Mann and the original Heat, which he says has some of the greatest performances ever in it.

“As an actor . . . it’s got some of the greatest performances,” said Butler of the original movie. “Just that diner scene alone between De Niro and Pacino is legendary. The attention to detail of Michael Mann and the desire for complete authenticity is inspiring. Yeah, I think that’s a movie that’s inspired a lot of us actors, for sure.”
