Fantastic Four & Avengers: Doomsday Are ‘Directly’ Connected

The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be essential viewing for those planning to see Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps arrives in theaters next month. Directed by Matt Shakman, the film stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch.

Pascal, Kirby, Moss-Bachrach, and Quinn’s MCU characters will all return in Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently in production. That movie is being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers.

At CineEurope, per Deadline, it was confirmed by Marvel’s Kevin Feige that the events of The Fantastic Four: First Steps will “lead directly” into Avengers: Doomsday.

Further details beyond that remain under wraps at this time, as Marvel has not released any information about the plot of Avengers: Doomsday; however, there’s plenty of speculation that could be had. There’s the possibility that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom could show up or be hinted at in some capacity, or the post-credit scene of Thunderbolts* could be addressed in some manner.

The synopsis for Fantastic Four reads, “Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Marvel’s First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Ben Grimm/The Thing as they face their most daunting challenge yet.”

Julia Garner is playing Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer while Ralph Ineson stars as Galactus in Fantastic Four, while the cast further includes John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Paul Walter Hauser.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits United States theaters on July 25, 2025. Avengers: Doomsday then arrives on December 18, 2026, while the sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, will be released on December 17, 2027.
