New James Bond Movie: Director List Revealed After Oscar Winner Drops Out

A new James Bond update reveals which directors may be in the running to helm the next 007 movie.

After Amazon MGM Studios acquired the creative rights to the James Bond franchise, it was reported earlier this year that David Heyman and Amy Pascal would be the lead producers on the next installment of 007. There has since been much talk and speculation about which director might sign onto the project, as well as which actor could play Bond.

What is the latest James Bond update?

It was previously reported that Gravity’s Alfonso Cuarón was potentially being eyed for Bond; however, Cuarón then seemingly took himself out of the running last month. A new report from Puck confirms that he’s no longer being considered.

Meanwhile, Conclave’s Edward Berger has already pitched his vision for James Bond, while Dune’s Denis Villeneuve, Baby Driver’s Edgar Wright, Fallout’s Jonathan Nolan, and Paddington’s Paul King will all “offer [their] takes” in the near future.

“The new Amazon brain trust—Heyman, Pascal, and top executives Mike Hopkins and Courtenay Valenti—plan to set the director this summer, then get the script written, then cast the next Bond,” the article notes. “Though obviously the filmmakers’ thoughts on 007, and who might play him, will come up in the meetings — most of which are taking place at Heyman’s house in London.”

The most recent casting rumor is that Lanterns’ Aaron Pierre is one of several names in the running for the role, though this is strictly a rumor at this time and should be taken with a grain of salt. In addition to playing the DCU’s John Stewart, Pierre is known for starring in 2024’s Rebel Ridge and voicing Mufasa in 2024’s Mufasa: The Lion King.

The Amazon James Bond movie does not have a release date at this time, as it’s not immediately clear how quickly the project will come together.
