Fake Thunderbolts* Scene Was Filmed to Combat Leaks
Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* features a hidden name change following the movie’s end, and in order to protect that information, Florence Pugh revealed she filmed a fake scene to hide the secrets.
What was in the fake Thunderbolts* scene?
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, star Florence Pugh revealed that, in order to keep the film’s new title of The New Avengers secret, a fake scene was filmed during production to keep people guessing about the end of the movie.
“We shot a version where she was like, ‘The New Thunderbolts!'” Pugh said. “And everyone was like, ‘Woo!’ And then we took all of the background [actors] out and shot Julia’s line, which was kind of cool.”
Of course, the actual end of the movie sees Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine dub the group the new Avengers instead, setting the stage for them to come together again later in the MCU.

Marvel Studios Thunderbolts* was released in theaters earlier this month. Directed by Jake Schreier, the film stars Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, Lewis Pullman as Bob Reynolds/Sentry, Geraldine Viswanathan as Mel, Wendell Pierce as Gary, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, in addition to John-Kamen.
“Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes—Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker,” the official synopsis for Thunderbolts* reads. “After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart, or find redemption and unite as something much more before it’s too late?”
