Gigi Zumbado Reveals ‘Absolutely Terrible’ Part of Filming Bride Hard

ComingSoon spoke to Bride Hard star Gigi Zumbado (The Rookie) about her role in the new action comedy movie. Starring Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp, the film combines the raunchiness of Bridesmaids with wild action and explosions. The film is out only in theaters on June 20, 2025, from Magenta Light Studios.

“For badass secret agent Sam (Rebel Wilson), blending in has never been part of the mission—until she’s maid of honor at her best friend’s extravagant destination wedding. Out of her element and surrounded by high-maintenance bridesmaids and a strict “no weapons” policy, Sam is determined to prove she can be there for her friend—even if emotional support isn’t exactly her specialty. But when a team of mercenaries crashes the party and takes the guests hostage, Sam is thrown into a fight unlike any mission before—one where she can’t risk blowing her cover or ruining the big day. As she takes on the bad guys in a high-stakes battle disguised as a fairy-tale affair, she realizes the real threat might be closer than she thinks. Now, it’s bridezilla vs. bazookas as Sam dodges bullets, brawls in heels, and tries to survive both the armed assailants and the wedding planner’s wrath. Some missions require the perfect cover. This one just requires the perfect dress,” says the synopsis.

Tyler Treese: You’re being part of such a talented female ensemble in Bride Hard. Just how fun was that cast? Because not only is everybody talented, but they’re all funny and having a good time. How was that experience?

Gigi Zumbado: They’re insane. I feel like I made a deal with the devil. Like, I don’t know what I did. Seriously. Like, I mean, come on. We’re like, what am I doing there? They’re the funniest, fiercest, most beautiful group of girls. And then the guys as well, I am thanking my lucky stars for including me in that. It was so much fun. And we were in Savannah, Georgia, which is basically a bachelorette town. I didn’t know everybody’s doing the bikes with beers and stuff. It was the funnest time ever [laughs].

I loved seeing Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who just really goes all out in Bride Hard. There’s that scene where she recites “My Neck, My Back” to you. What stood out about her commitment to comedy? Because you two have some great scenes.

So that’s your ringtone, right? That’s what you’re saying.

Of course.

Your favorite song. I think she picked that song. I think it was up to her, what she sang to Zoe’s belly. I didn’t know what it was gonna be, and I was like, “That’s what you’re going with? Okay, we’re in. Here we go, lock in.”

It was so funny. She’s so funny. She’s so easy to be comfortable with off the bat. I’m just thinking about it. I wasn’t expecting how committed she was going to be to this role. And I think with everything obviously that she’s doing and what she’s showcased, that she can do for her to just have so much fun. I really look up to her as an actress because she just had a blast with us, and it was great.

It’s a great moment. You mentioned Zoe’s belly. How was the whole experience of playing a pregnant character?

It was absolutely terrible. The movie’s great. I loved the movie. The belly, I could do without for the rest of my life. It was so hot. Again, Savannah, Georgia, very hot. Very moist, locked in there, it was difficult to go to the bathroom. So once I strapped in for the day, I kind of committed, and it was pretty brutal under there.

Well, it paid off for the work ’cause this film is so much fun. My last question for you. I thought you were so fun in Heart Eyes earlier this year, and now Bride Hard’s releasing. How has it been seeing all this hard work pay off in such a short span of the last couple months? Because you’re really having a moment in the cinemas here.

Thank you. I’m really grateful. It’s really a huge blessing. I am really, really grateful. I have two sisters that are also actresses and we know the hard work we put in every single day for this and sacrifices our family members have made to allow us to be here and do this. I’m really proud and I’m honored to represent my family right now. We always pass the torch. One of us is the one thriving each year, or someone doing something. So I’m happy to sit in the throne right now and claim the spot.

Thanks to Gigi Zumbado for taking the time to talk about Bride Hard, which is out this week in theaters.
