Death Stranding Animated Movie Gets New Details, Writer Revealed

The Death Stranding animated movie has received a major update.

Aaron Guzikowski has signed on to pen the screenplay of the adult-animated Death Stranding movie. Guzikowski is best known for creating Raised by Wolves, HBO Max’s sci-fi drama that ran for two seasons from 2020 to 2022.

“I love the world of Death Stranding. It’s so creatively freeing, so beautifully dark and yet hopeful. I’m so excited and honored that Hideo Kojima, whose work I’ve long admired, has invited me to dwell within his creation, to birth new stories into this fertile, mind-bending universe,” said Guzikowski in a statement via Animation Magazine. “Drawing and animation have always been near and dear to my heart, so to finally get to play in this space is a dream come true.”

What is the Death Stranding animated movie about?

The Death Stranding animated movie is inspired by Hideo Kojima’s award-winning video game, Death Stranding. The animated project will tell an original story within the Death Stranding universe.

Kojima Productions and Line Mileage announced the animated movie.

While speaking with Vogue Japan last month, Kojima teased the anime adaptation of Death Stranding along with his A24 live-action movie based on the video game.

“I am also currently working with A24 on a live-action film adaptation of Death Stranding,” Kojima said. “I am aiming to make Death Stranding in a way that can only be done as a film, and that will win awards at the Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival. In fact, we are also currently working on an anime adaptation.”

Released in 2019, Kojima’s Death Stranding is a post-apocalyptic adventure game where, to save humanity and prevent mass extinction, a courier must deliver supplies across the nation after a series of supernatural events. Death Stranding featured performances from Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen, Margaret Qualley, and Guillermo del Toro.

The sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, will be released by Sony on June 26, 2025.

A24’s Death Stranding live-action movie will be written and directed by A Quiet Place: Day One’s Michael Sarnoski.
