Harold & Kumar 4 Is in the Works, Directors & Returning Cast Revealed

Harold & Kumar 4 is officially in the works.

John Cho’s Harold Lee and Kal Penn’s Kumar Patel first debuted in 2004’s Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. The buddy stoner comedy was then followed by two sequels: 2008’s Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay and 2011’s A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas.

What do we know about Harold & Kumar 4?

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Cobra Kai creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald have closed a deal to make Harold & Kumar 4 for Lionsgate’s Mandate Pictures.

Hurwitz and Schlossberg will direct the movie, which is notable given that they got their start in Hollywood by writing Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle before they then went on to make their directorial debut with Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.

Cho and Penn are both “expected to return” for the fourth Harold & Kumar movie, though the official deals have not yet been made. It’s unclear at this time if Neil Patrick Harris, who played a fictionalized version of himself in the three previous films, will also return.

Hurwitz, Schlossberg, and Heald will all produce the movie for Counterbalance Entertainment alongside Gerg Shapiro and Nathan Kahane for Mandate. Dina Hillier will serve as an executive producer for Counterbalance.

Hurwitz and Schlossberg said in a statement, “We’re fired up to bring Harold and Kumar back in a return to the unapologetically R-rated, smoke-filled chaos that started it all. It’s high time they puff and pass their wisdom onto a new generation. Just don’t tell their kids.”

Plot details for Harold & Kumar 4 remain under wraps at this time. A release date has not yet been set.

Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, and A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, meanwhile, are all currently available to rent or purchase on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.
