I Know What You Did Last Summer: Jennifer Love Hewitt Teases ‘Edgier’ Julie James
I Know What You Did Last Summer star Jennifer Love Hewitt teases what audiences can expect from Julie James in the upcoming fourth installment.
The last time audiences saw the character was in the 1998 sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. Though the film seemed to portray Julie finally leading a peaceful life, its final moments hinted that she was still not free from the Fisherman’s grasp. With Julie James returning for the upcoming fourth installment, Hewitt teases how the character has fared since the events of the second movie.
What did Jennifer Love Hewitt say about her character in I Know What You Did Last Summer?
In an interview with ExtraTV, the actress revealed that Julie James will be very different from the teenage version she portrayed in the first two installments — emphasizing that the current Julie has lived with the trauma of her past horrifying experiences.
“She’s very different. I think you’ll see shades of that girl because I want those to be in there, but she’s lived in — you know, she’s in her 40s. She’s carried this a long time. I think she’s figured out how to deal [with it]. She’s a professor, in sort of the mind and trauma and PTSD field,” said Hewitt.
She continued, “I think she’s figured out a way to put herself in a position in her life so she can deal every day with what happened to her in her teens. She’s a little edgier. She’s funny. She’s funny in this movie, which I really appreciate.”

They will be joined by I Know What You Did Last Summer newcomers Jonah Hauer-King, Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Lola Tung, and more. It is directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.
“When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences,” reads the official synopsis. “A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.”
I Know What You Did Last Summer is set to arrive in theaters on July 18, 2025.
