Mortal Kombat 2 Trailer’s Release Date Window Revealed by Producer

A new tease from producer Todd Garner has revealed when the first Mortal Kombat 2 trailer will drop, offering a key update on the sequel’s rollout. The post hints at a summer debut and suggests a restricted rating, as anticipation builds ahead of its October 2025 release.

Todd Garner teases Mortal Kombat 2’s trailer release window

On June 11, 2025, producer Todd Garner announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Mortal Kombat 2’s first trailer will drop in July. He posted an image of himself looking at the movie’s trailer, captioning it with a single word: “July.” The movie has received an R rating for “strong bloody violence and gore, and language.”

Garner’s post arrives just four months before the sequel’s theatrical release on October 24, 2025. Screenwriter Jeremy Slater recently stated that Mortal Kombat 2 has been “done for a while” and that they were “waiting for the right release date and waiting for the right window” (via ComicBook.com). Slater added that the film had undergone test screenings, and fans reacted with enthusiasm comparable to Avengers: Endgame.

The studio may unveil the red-band trailer around the July 11 release of Superman or during San Diego Comic-Con 2025, which runs from July 24 to 27. Rating restrictions prevent theaters from showing the trailer before Superman, which carries a PG-13 rating. Instead, Warner Bros. may attach the trailer to upcoming R-rated releases like I Know What You Did Last Summer on July 18 or Weapons on August 8.

The sequel brings back Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion. New cast members include Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn. Simon McQuoid is the director of the film, and Jeremy Slater serves as the screenwriter.

Warner Bros. will release Mortal Kombat 2 in theaters on October 24, 2025.
