Black Panther 3: Ryan Coogler Gives Update on Denzel Washington’s Key Role

While details about Black Panther 3 have been few and far between, director Ryan Coogler has recently said that he actively hopes to join forces with actor Denzel Washington for the project. Rumors have linked the Training Day star with a mysterious role in the third Black Panther movie for a long time. Now, Coogler has noted that he would like to turn this proposition into reality, without giving away any concrete details about his future plans.

In a recent interview, the two-time Academy Award winner opened up about potentially working with Denzel Washington in Black Panther 3. While Coogler shied away from relaying any specifics about the project, he did say that Washington’s November 2024 comments about the threequel did take him by surprise.

During his recent appearance on the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, Coogler was asked if he’s had conversations with Denzel Washington about Black Panther 3 or if he is writing a role specifically for Washington in the movie. Coogler simply replied, “All of that, bro, all of the above,” before adding, “There’s no fiction out there.”

The seasoned filmmaker then spoke more about the bond he shares with Washington, noting, “Denzel is family at this point…I’ve been trying to work with him since day one. I think he’s the greatest living actor, and in terms of what he means to our culture, forget about it. I’ve been talking to him about this to him for a long time.” Reacting to Denzel Washington’s statements about the two collaborating for Black Panther 3, Coogler stated, “I was surprised when he mentioned it, but it’s not like it’s not true.”

At the time of writing, Marvel Studios has yet to share any official update on Black Panther 3, including Washington’s much-discussed participation in it.
