Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway to add Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy
Tom Felton confirmed he will be joining the cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as Draco Malfoy during a June 5 appearance on TODAY, announcing he will join the production for a 19-week run starting November 11, 2025. This marks Felton’s Broadway debut and his first time portraying Draco Malfoy since the final Harry Potter film in 2011.
Felton said, “It’s very much a pinch-me situation. I let go of that character 16 years ago, and now I get to step back into his shoes, as a father this time, in a new story.” He added, “The play is such an independent story from the ‘Potter’ films… now we’re no longer children. We actually are the parents.”
The production takes place 19 years after the events of the original series, with adult versions of Harry, Draco, Ron, and Hermione sending their children to Hogwarts. Felton becomes the first actor from the original film cast to join the Broadway adaptation. “Joining this production will be a full-circle moment for me,” he said.
The play’s producers, Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, said in a statement, “Tom’s return to Hogwarts bridges generations of fans and breathes new life into a beloved story.” Felton described the moment he donned Draco’s wig again: “I just immediately cried. It was just sort of like a blast from the past.”
The Lyric Theatre in New York City will host the play until March 22, 2026. Presale tickets open on June 10 at 11 a.m. ET, with general sales starting June 12. Since premiering in London in 2016, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has become Broadway’s highest-grossing non-musical play.
