Star Wars Report Gives Update on Kathleen Kennedy’s Exit & Aftermath
The Star Wars franchise is currently overseen by legendary producer Kathleen Kennedy, but according to a report, Disney already has its eyes set on her eventual successor.
Who is set to take over Star Wars after Kathleen Kennedy?
According to a new report from THR on the state of Hollywood and various succession plans, Lucasfilm is brought up. While rumors that outside help would be brought in after Kennedy eventually retires, the article notes that Disney is likely to promote from within, and has two people in mind to co-head the franchise: Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck.
Currently serving as CCO of Lucasfilm, Filoni is no stranger to the world of Star Wars, having worked alongside George Lucas after being brought on to direct the critically acclaimed animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. He’s since become a mainstay in the universe, and created the Disney+ series Ahsoka, Star Wars Resistance, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and Tales of the Jedi.

Beck is the current vice president of animation and live-action development at Lucasfilm, and co-created Star Wars Rebels. She and Filoni have also served as producers and executive producers on a variety of Star Wars projects over the past few years.
THR’s report notes that there are some knocks against the possibility of turning to Filoni and Beck. Namely, concerns about Filoni potentially taking the series into more “dense mythology,” as well as concerns that neither have any experience in the world of film.
As for now, Kennedy remains at the wheel of the Star Wars ship. Although rumors about her being fired or retiring have floated around for years, the producer recently said she has no immediate plans to step down, but it seems like Disney is already prepared for the future when she does decide to.
