Superman’s Huge Marketing Spend Revealed for DCU Movie

Superman‘s budget could be a bit higher than previously reported, with some recent estimates putting the DCU movie in rarified air in terms of cost.

How much is being spent on marketing for Superman?

According to a new report from THR on the rising costs of blockbuster movie budgets, Superman is brought up. Originally, estimates from documents filed by the Superman production team with the Ohio government pegged the movie’s budget as around $363 million.

James Gunn was quick to debunk that, taking to social media to suggest the number was ludicrous. THR notes that recently, DC has suggested that the budget for the film was $225 million after tax incentives. However, one longtime financier tells THR that the budget could be even higher.

According to the financier, he believes the original $363 million figure is correct. On top of that, he also thinks that DC and Warner Bros. Discovery could spend as much as $200 million on the marketing campaign for the movie. Should these estimated figures be correct, that would put Superman’s budget in the $400 million range, a high mark for a blockbuster.

While a $400 million budget is not entirely unique, that does mean the line of profitability is much higher. In order to be considered a true success by DC Studios and WB, Superman will likely have to make a ton of money back.

Along with David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, Superman stars Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe.

Superman is set to premiere in theaters on July 11, 2025.
