Lurker Trailer Questions the Line Between Love & Obsession in Thriller Movie

Mubi has shared the official Lurker trailer for the upcoming parasocial thriller starring Gran Turismo and Saltburn’s Archie Madekwe. Following its world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, the movie is slated to arrive in theaters on August 22.

“When a twenty-something retail clerk encounters a rising pop star, he takes the opportunity to edge his way into the in-crowd. But as the line between friend and fan blurs beyond recognition, access and proximity become a matter of life and death,” reads the synopsis.

What happens in the Lurker trailer?

The video features a fan who becomes too infatuated with an up-and-coming pop star after getting the chance to be part of his team. The ensemble cast also includes Théodore Pellerin, Zack Fox, Havana Rose Liu, Wale Onayemi, Daniel Zolghadri, and Sunny Suljic. Since its world premiere, the movie has received a Tomatometer rating of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Lurker is written and directed by Alex Russell in his feature directorial debut. He’s best known for his acclaimed work on The Bear and Beef. The latter won him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Series. It is executive produced by Mal Ward, Matt Aselton, Alfonso Angoitia Legorreta, Gabriele Moratti, Lily Collins, Nicholas Wirth, Nicol Pone, and Ben Shafer. Producers are Alex Orlovsky, Duncan Montomery, Galen Core, Marc Marrie, Charlie McDowell, Archie Madekwe, Francesco Melzi D’Eril, Olmo Schnabel, and Jack Selby. The movie will also feature original music from Kenny Beats, Dijon, and Rex Orange County, which will be performed by Madekwe.
