Additionally, McShane highlighted the close bond he shared with the three-time Saturn Awards nominee on the sets of the John Wick flicks.
Ian McShane on his tragic final memory of John Wick’s Lance Reddick
In a recent discussion, the Deadwood alum recalled his final encounter with the late Lance Reddick, which occurred some time after the release of John Wick: Chapter 4.
While speaking with Dexerto, Ian McShane, who embodies the role of Winston in the beloved film series, noted, “The moment that stands out to me about Lance is a couple of years ago, when John Wick 4 came out. We were in LA, and I said, ‘I’ll see you back for the premiere in a couple of weeks.’ I went to London, came back, and never saw him again, which is tragic, but there you are.”
McShane then disclosed a behind-the-scenes story about The Wire star and himself, describing how the pair teamed up with one another to come up with a backstory for their John Wick characters. “Usually I’d be with him, which was nice, because we invented this backstory between us that they met in Africa in the ‘70s when I was working for MI6 and he was local government,” he remarked.
The Golden Globe Award winner even teased how the fans might get to learn about the history of Winston and Charon, which he cooked up with Reddick, in the already-confirmed John Wick 5. Ian McShane stated, “They kept in touch. And when they got too old, they got kicked out, and then they formed this partnership in private and formed this relationship. Who knows who backed them? That’s the great thing, maybe that’s in John Wick 5, you never know.”
Lance Reddick, who took on the mantle of Charon, the concierge of the Continental Hotel, in five John Wick movies as well as a video game, titled John Wick Hex, passed away in March 2023 at the age of 60.
