Highlander: John Wick Director Gives Exciting Update on Henry Cavill Reboot

The Highlander reboot with Henry Cavill has received an exciting update.

Chad Stahelski, known for his work on the John Wick franchise, is currently working on a reboot of Highlander. The project was originally in development at Lionsgate but is now instead being made for Amazon MGM Studios.

When is the production window for the Highlander reboot?

Speaking with Deadline, Stahelski gave an exciting update on the Highlander reboot and confirmed the movie is still on track to begin production this September.

“We’re in active prep right now,” he said. “We plan to be shooting by mid-September, starting off in London. I hope it’s good.”

Stahelski told Collider last month that they hoped the movie would begin filming in the fall of 2025 and that, if everything goes to plan, it could have a 2027 or 2028 release date.

No other casting beyond Cavill has yet been announced for the Highlander reboot. Plot details remain under wraps at this time, though Stahelski has previously said that the movie will incorporate elements and characters from both the film franchise and the television series.

The Highlander franchise officially began in 1986 with the Christopher Lambert-led film directed by Russell Mulcahy.

“When the mystical Russell Nash (Lambert) kills a man in a sword fight in a New York City parking lot, he leaves a sliver of an ancient weapon lodged in a car in the process,” a description of the film reads. “After brilliant forensics specialist Brenda Wyatt (Roxanne Hart) recovers evidence of the mysterious weapon, she and her partner, Lt. Frank Moran (Alan North), embark on an investigation Of Nash that will land them in the middle of a dangerous, centuries-old feud between powerful immortals.”

It was followed by 1991’s Highlander II: The Quickening, 1994’s Highlander III: The Sorcerer, 2000’s Highlander: Endgame, 2007’s Highlander: The Source, and 2007’s Highlander: The Search for Vengeance. There have also been three Highlander shows, including Highlander: The Series, Highlander: The Animated Series, and Highlander: The Raven.
