Fantastic Four Director on if Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom Is in First Steps
While the recent leak about The Fantastic Four: First Steps post-credits scene suggested that fans will receive their first look at Robert Downey Jr.’s take on Doctor Doom, the film’s director has now come out to share a contradicting comment. In a recent discussion, Matt Shakman clarified that the iconic supervillain will not feature in his upcoming movie, which centers around Marvel’s First Family.
Matt Shakman may have proven Fantastic Four’s post-credits leak wrong
The WandaVision director decided to put all rumors regarding Victor Von Doom’s much-discussed appearance in the forthcoming The Fantastic Four project to bed by confirming that the character will not have any part to play in his film.
During his recent conversation with Empire, Matt Shakman noted, “Doom is not a part of my film, and therefore not a part of my purview.” While theories about Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom making his MCU debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps have been around ever since Marvel Studios announced the project, they started to pick up some serious heat after a public test screening of the film took place on May 28.
After that, details regarding The Fantastic Four film’s post-credits scene started to make way on the internet. Some sources even suggested the Latveria monarch’s appearance in the sequence.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps post-credits scene reportedly sees Doom paying a visit to Sue Storm, while she tends to her son, Franklin. Although the sequence does not feature Robert Downey Jr., it seems to have served as the character’s maiden on-screen appearance in the MCU.
Nevertheless, Matt Shakman has since refuted all such claims, saying that Doom will not feature in the Pedro Pascal-led flick. This could mean that the reports highlighting details about the post-credits scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps are, indeed, false. Or, this might turn out to be a clever ploy employed by the director to subvert audience expectations.
Whatever the case may be, MCU fans will surely receive a definitive answer on the topic when The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25, 2025.
