Superman Cast: Smallville’s Lex Luthor Actor Confirms Role in DCU Movie
Former Smallville Lex Luthor Michael Rosenbaum has confirmed he recorded a secret voice role for James Gunn’s upcoming Superman reboot, adding to speculation about his return to the DC Universe. He revealed the update during a recent fan convention appearance.
Michael Rosenbaum confirms a voice cameo in Superman
While speaking at Fan Expo Dallas about James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, former Lex Luthor Michael Rosenbaum said, “James asked me to do something fun, so I have a couple of lines that I voice.” He added, “There was nothing in this one, but he’s the head of DC, so I think he can stick me in a movie or something” (via Screen Rant).
Rosenbaum played Lex Luthor in Smallville for seven seasons and voiced The Flash in Justice League. He is also a close friend of James Gunn, appearing as Martinex in Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.
In Superman, Gunn has cast several of his regular collaborators in key roles. Sean Gunn plays Maxwell Lord, Nathan Fillion appears as Guy Gardner, and Alan Tudyk and Michael Rooker voice robots in Superman’s Fortress of Solitude.
Although Rosenbaum did not confirm the identity of his voice role, speculation suggests he may be voicing one of the robots at the Fortress. When asked why he wasn’t cast in a larger role, the actor shared that he asked Gunn, “Why am I not in Superman? Why am I not in the movie somehow?” He also expressed interest in being part of the DCU, saying, “Whatever comes to me, I look at it, and if it’s not too silly, or if it makes me laugh, or I think I could do a really good job, or I think I can make an impression, I’ll do it.
Rosenbaum noted that Superman is scheduled to release on his birthday and expressed confidence in Gunn’s leadership. “He’s one of my best friends, and he’s very loyal. I think he’s got a great vision.” His Smallville co-star Tom Welling added, “Once (Michael) gets involved, it’s better,” supporting Rosenbaum’s continued involvement in DC projects.
