X-Men: Deadpool Director Reveals MCU Movie Pitch
Deadpool director Tim Miller has revealed the unmade X-Men movie that, at one time, he was developing.
Miller is known for directing 2016’s Deadpool and 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate. Miller is also an executive producer on the Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise and is further known for creating television shows such as Love, Death & Robots and Secret Level.
What X-Men movie was Deadpool’s Tim Miller developing?
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Miller said he was developing an X-Men movie based on Uncanny X-Men #143 (by Chris Claremont, John Byrne, Terry Austin, Glynis Wein, and Tom Orzechowski) at one point, which Miller says would have been like “Home Alone meets Alien.”
“When Kitty Pryde is left behind at the mansion alone, she’s attacked by a N’garai demon,” the solicitation for Uncanny X-Men #143 reads. “Can the newest X-Man handle the villain all by her lonesome?”
Miller said he was developing the project at the Fox when the company merged with Disney. He is, however, still interested in directing an MCU X-Men movie.
“I think that the Marvel has this secret weapon they haven’t been able to unveil yet, which is the whole X-Men universe — which is what got me into comics,” Miller said. “The X-Men are my favorite characters. I wrote [Marvel boss] Kevin Feige, and I’m like, ‘If there was ever anything that you would let me do in the Marvel Universe, please, the X-Men would be it.’”
There is an X-Men movie being developed at Marvel Studios at this time, though it does not have a release date and little is known about the project. The script is being written by Michael Lesslie, while Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier is being eyed to helm the project.
Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds is also believed to be in early development on an X-Men movie, though even less is known about that project.
