Vanessa Kirby Teases Franklin’s Superpowers in The Fantastic Four: First Steps
Vanessa Kirby is teasing Franklin Richards’ superpowers in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps releases in United States theaters this coming July. Directed by Matt Shakman, the MCU movie stars Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing.
The trailers for the Marvel Studios movie have confirmed that Sue is pregnant in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. In Marvel Comics, Reed and Sue have two children, Franklin and Valeria Richards, though it’s been relatively unclear until now as to whether or not they’ll actually appear in First Steps or if Marvel is saving them for the forthcoming Avengers movies.
What did Vanessa Kirby say about Franklin Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps?
Speaking with Empire Magazine, Kirby hinted that “it’s not just the adults that have superpowers” in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
While she didn’t say any more about the matter beyond that, Franklin plays a major role in the Secret Wars comic published in 2015-16 by writer Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić. More specifically, Franklin uses his powers at the end of the series to rebuild the Marvel multiverse; Kirby’s comment then suggests that this could be the direction the MCU is potentially headed in when it comes to Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Kirby also told Empire Magazine that she “out-nerded” everyone when filming The Fantastic Four: First Steps, as she “got so into quantum physics.” She continued, “It’s sad how much I got into it. I could waffle on about cellular vibration frequency.”
The movie also stars Ralph Ineson as Galactus and Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer. Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne additionally appear in undisclosed roles.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released in United States theaters on July 25, 2025.
