Avengers: Endgame & Thunderbolts* Get Beaten by Lilo & Stitch’s Box Office Achievements

Disney’s Lilo & Stitch has broken Avengers: Endgame’s record and overtaken the box office take for Thunderbolts* both domestically and internationally with its Monday box office numbers. Lilo & Stitch opened in theaters on May 23, 2025, and has taken the box office by storm. This live-action remake of the animated original is directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and has already become one of Disney’s most successful live-action adaptations.

Lilo & Stitch now has the fourth-best Monday box office ever

Lilo & Stitch has broken Avengers: Endgame’s box office record and claimed a spot in the top 4 list of biggest-grossing Mondays of all time domestically. According to a report by Disney, on Monday, May 26, Lilo & Stitch collected $37 million, making the movie’s first Monday at the box office one of the highest-grossing Mondays of all time.

This figure has helped the movie to overtake Avengers: Endgame, which made $36.9 million on its first Monday in 2019. Apart from Lilo & Stitch, the other movies that made it to the top 4 highest-grossing Mondays of all time are:

  • Black Panther (2018) – $40.15 million
  • Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) – $40.1 million
  • Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) – $37.1 million

Additionally, Lilo & Stitch also dethroned Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick as the movie with the biggest Memorial Day opening with $182.6 million. Top Gun: Maverick, on the other hand, made approximately $160.5 million.

Lilo & Stitch goes past Thunderbolts*’ box office

Apart from its Memorial Day feat, within a few days of its release, Lilo & Stitch has surpassed the current lifetime collection of Thunderbolts*.

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the live-action adaptation has already crossed $400 million at the box office in just five days. The current collection of Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* is currently around $358 million.

While speaking about the reception toward Lilo & Stitch, Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman said in a statement, “The love that people have for Lilo & Stitch continues to grow, and the goal with this new retelling was for audiences to be able to enjoy these characters on the big screen again and hopefully have just as much fun watching it as we had making it. We are tremendously proud of this history-making launch, and I want to give my thanks to our teams who have done such great work as well as to the fans who have made this exceptional opening possible.”
