Red Guardian Gets New Suits in Thunderbolts* Concept Art

New concept art for Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* has made its way online, showing off a darker and sleeker suit for David Harbour’s Red Guardian.

What new looks for Red Guardian are show in the Thunderbolts* concept art?

On Instagram, artist Aleksi Bricolt showed off an early look at Red Guardian from production on the recently released movie. According to Bricolt, he was going for a “darker vibe” with this rendition of the costume, which features more black than the traditional red that Red Guardian wears. The star on his costume is also adorned in all black, with slight red accents appearing on the suit.

According to Bricolt, the overall effect he was going for was “less Santa Claus” and more “Spec Ops.” The Red Guardian that appeared in the film ended up wearing a suit more in line with when he appeared in 2021’s Black Widow, however. Check out the concept art below:

Marvel Studios Thunderbolts* was released in theaters earlier this month. Directed by Jake Schreier, the film stars Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, Lewis Pullman as Bob Reynolds/Sentry, Geraldine Viswanathan as Mel, Wendell Pierce as Gary, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, in addition to John-Kamen.

“Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes—Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker,” the official synopsis for Thunderbolts* reads. “After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart, or find redemption and unite as something much more before it’s too late?”

Thunderbolts* is currently playing in United States theaters.
