Surprise Martin Scorsese Movie Revealed, Set in New Orleans
A new report suggests that another Martin Scorsese movie is currently in the works from the Oscar-winning filmmaker. Tentatively titled as Midnight Vendetta, the project has reportedly have a completed script written by acclaimed scribe Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, Munich, Dune).
The new movie is part of Scorsese’s growing list of ongoing projects. This includes his upcoming Hawaii-set crime drama movie with Dwayne Johnson and Leonardo DiCaprio, which had just been acquired by Disney. The high-profile project will center around a “a ruthless Hawaiian crime boss” being likened to Robert De Niro’s Jimmy the Gent character from the Goodfellas.
What is the new Martin Sorcese movie about?
Midnight Vendetta will reportedly center around the origins of organized Italian crime in the United States, which began with arrival of the Mafia in New Orleans around 1890. Academy Award winner and long-time Scorsese collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio is once again attached to the project. However, the outlet stressed that the A-list actor hasn’t officially signed on any deal yet.
According to the report, “sicilian immigrants, many fleeing poverty and violence back home, settled in the city’s port neighborhoods, bringing with them old-world networks and rivalries. Tensions quickly escalated between local authorities and the growing Italian community, culminating in the infamous murder of Police Chief David Hennessy in 1890. Hennessy reportedly blamed ‘the Dagoes’ with his dying breath, triggering one of the largest lynchings in U.S. history when a mob stormed the jail and killed 11 Italian men, some with suspected Mafia ties. This event thrust the Sicilian Mafia into the national spotlight and etched New Orleans into the origin story of organized crime in America.”
