Mission: Impossible 8 ‘Feels Like an End’ To Franchise Star

Shaun of the Dead star Simon Pegg has shared his thoughts on Mission: Impossible 8 potentially serving as the final installment to the blockbuster spy franchise. Pegg has been playing the role of Benji Dunn since 2006’s Mission: Impossible III, in which he was initially introduced as a technician of the IMF.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is directed by Christopher McQuarrie, who co-wrote the screenplay with Erik Jendresen. Besides Pegg, the film also stars Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, Tramell Tillman, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Rolf Saxon, Lucy Tulugarjuk, and Angela Bassett. The sequel will also feature Holt McCallany, Janet McTeer, Charles Parnell, and Mark Gatiss.

Simon Pegg on Mission: Impossible 8 potentially wrapping up the franchise

During a recent interview, when asked if he believes Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning would be the end of the franchise, Pegg revealed that the eighth installment does indeed feel like the conclusion of their characters’ journey, especially with how the story unfolds in the movie.

“I feel like The Final Reckoning is a satisfying culmination of these films. It feels like an end to me,” Pegg said. “It wraps up so much of what’s gone before. McQ (Christopher McQuarrie) expertly went into the past and looked at the preceding movies, and he saw how he could find an origin for the Entity — and how Ethan’s refusal to ever sacrifice anything would impact the events that have led to this. So that all wraps up in this film, and for me, it does feel like an end.”

The film is produced by McQuarrie and Cruise, with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, and Chris Brock as executive producers. It is a production by Paramount Pictures and Skydance. At the moment, the latest sequel currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 80% on Rotten Tomates, based on 263 reviews.

The movie is now playing in theaters worldwide.
