Avatar 2 Theatrical Rerelease Date Set Prior to Fire and Ash

20th Century Studios has announced the Avatar 2 theatrical rerelease dates for the upcoming limited screenings of James Cameron’s blockbuster sci-fi epic sequel. This comes ahead of the third movie, Avatar: Fire and Ash‘s highly anticipated debut on December 19, 2025.

“Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure,” reads the official synopsis.

When is the Avatar 2 theatrical rerelease date?

Avatar: The Way of Water is officially heading back to theaters for one week only, starting on October 3, 2025. At the moment, the 2022 movie currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 76% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 456 reviews. During its initial theatrical run, the sequel shattered box office records by becoming the third highest-grossing movie of all time with a worldwide gross of over $2.3 billion.

The sequel was directed and co-written by James Cameron. It featured the return of Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald, and Sigourney Weaver. They were joined by Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, Jamie Flatters, and more.

As for Avatar: Fire and Ash, it is once again directed by Cameron, who co-wrote the screenplay with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. Cameron previously said that the upcoming sequel will explore “different cultures from those I have already shown. The fire will be represented by the ‘Ash People.’ I want to show the Na’vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides.”
