Chicago Fire’s Rome Flynn to Star in One-Shot Musical Produced by Tyler Perry

Armani Ortiz, a long-term creative partner and mentee of Tyler Perry, will be making his solo directorial debut with the upcoming musical, Otra. The Latino feature has already commenced its production phase in Atlanta and Puerto Rico, with former Chicago Fire star Rome Flynn and María Gabriela De Faría joining as the principal cast in the musical film.

Rome Flynn and María Gabriela De Faría to lead new Otra feature

A recent report has confirmed that Armani Ortiz will take charge of Otra in his maiden outing as a feature film director. Apart from Rome Flynn of Chicago Fire fame and The Moodys star María Gabriela De Faría, the cast of the musical Otra also includes Flor Delis Alicea and Aria Celeste Castillo.

Per Deadline, the one-shot feature will see Tyler Perry come in as the executive producer. Meanwhile, Daniel Etzioni and Deance Wyatt, along with Ortiz himself, will serve as the producers. Additionally, Asante White occupies the position of the lead producer in the project.

Talking about the Rome Flynn-led musical in an interview with the outlet, Ortiz noted, “I’ve been dreaming and planning for this project for the better part of five years, and for it to be my first solo debut feature film feels like fate.”

Tyler Perry’s protégé then explained his decision to shoot the entire movie in one continuous take. He stated, “From a filmmaking perspective, I really wanted to do something that the audience has never seen before—the first-ever one-shot musical in cinema history. And if there happens to already be a one-shot musical, then I guarantee it was not made for the budget we have.”

Moreover, Perry himself has expressed excitement in seeing Armani Ortiz realize his creative vision on the big screens. Labeling the up-and-coming filmmaker as “an amazing storyteller,” The Oval creator remarked, “Otra is a story about love, fate, and finding your voice. I’m excited for Armani’s solo directorial debut, and for audiences to see his vision come to life.”

Despite all the positive updates regarding the project, Otra has yet to receive an official release date from its makers.
