John Wick 5 Gets Exciting First Plot Details as Series Pivots

John Wick franchise director Chad Stahelski has finally shared the first plot details for his highly-anticipated John Wick 5 movie. This comes after over a month since Lionsgate officially confirmed Keanu Reeves‘ involvement in the project at the recent CinemaCon.

The next installment will once again be directed by Stahelski, with Reeves reprising the titular hitman. During its theatrical run, John Wick: Chapter 4 managed to earn a worldwide gross of over $428 million, making it the highest-grossing installment. This achievement allowed the franchise to reach the billion-dollar mark at the worldwide box office.

What is the first plot details for John Wick 5?

During a recent interview, Stahelski revealed that John Wick 5 won’t be a direct continuation of the titular hitman’s story arc from the previous four installments. He teased that the creative team is planning to tell a new story for Reeves’ iconic character.

“The saga of John Wick was pretty wrapped up,” Stahelski shared. “So the only way to do a 5 is to have a new story that involves John Wick. It’s not a continuation, with the High Table. John dealt with his grief. It will be really different, and everybody [will] see the trailer and go, ‘Holy fuck . . . I gotta see that.’”

He also hinted at the potential connection of John Wick 5 to the upcoming animated prequel and Under The High Table series. They’re hoping to use both shows as the groundwork for next chapter in John Wick’s journey after he successfully earned his freedom back from the High Table at the end of John Wick: Chapter 4.

He added, “The John Wick TV show and the animation are big priorities. Our idea is to try some things and explore some threads and use those two properties to catapult us forward into the ideas for John 5.”
