Mandy Moore Joins Nate Bargatze in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story Director’s New Movie

This Is Us and Tangled star Mandy Moore has officially been tapped to join stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze in TriStar Pictures’ upcoming comedy titled The Breadwinner. In addition, young up-and-coming stars Stella Grace Fitzgerald (Rebel Moon), Birdie Borria (The Fabelmans), and Charlotte Ann Tucker (Thunderbolts*) have also been cast to play the daughters of Moore and Bargatze’s characters.

The Breadwinner will be directed by Eric Appel (Weird: The Al Yankovic Story), who also co-wrote the screenplay. The movie is produced by Bargatze, Dan Lagna, and Wonder Project’s Jeremy Latcham. At the moment, the project has no official release date.

What is The Breadwinner starring Mandy Moore about?

“The story sees the life of Bargatze’s character turned upside down when his supermom wife (Moore) lands a deal on Shark Tank. The lifelong breadwinner of the family becomes a stay-at-home dad, and quickly realizes he’s in way over his head,” reads the initial synopsis.

Moore is best known for her Emmy-nominated performance in NBC’s acclaimed family drama This Is Us, which last on-air for six seasons from 2016-2022. Her most recent appearance was in the second season of Dr. Death. She is still set to star in the horror movie Thread: An Insidious Tale with Kumail Nanjiani.

As for Bargatze, this marks his first major movie project as the lead. Besides The Breadwinner, he is also currently attached to lead the family comedy movie Christmas in Paradise. The comedian is also expected to appear in the Manningcast talk show, with Dwayne Johnson and Will Ferrell.
