What happens in the Weapons teaser trailer?

The Weapons trailer sets the stage for an unsettling mystery in the small town of Maybrook. After 17 children mysteriously leave their homes in the middle of the night, the community looks for answers while struggling to comprehend what may have happened to them.

In addition to Brolin and Garner, the cast of Weapons includes Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Amy Madigan, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, June Diane Raphael, Toby Huss, and more.

Cregger co-directed 2009’s Miss March and 2011’s The Civil War on Drugs alongside Trevor Moore. He then helmed his first movie as a solo director, Barbarian, in 2022. That film starred Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård, and Justin Long. Since then, Cregger also produced 2025’s Companion.

Whether or not Weapons and Barbarian are connected remains to be seen. Warner Bros. recently launched a website promoting Weapons that suggests Cregger’s new movie may take place within the same universe as Barbarian. Further details or potential connections remain under wraps at this time.

Brolin previously said of Weapons, via Collider, “It’s a really good script, first of all. He’s put together a really good cast. There are a lot of really good people involved. This was one of the few times when I finally went, ‘Okay, let’s do this.’ I’m serious when I say I think it’s a really brilliant design of a script.”

Weapons will be released in United States theaters on August 8, 2025, from Warner Bros. Pictures. Barbarian is currently streaming on Fubo.
