Emilia Pérez’s Karla Sofía Gascón To Play ‘God and the Devil’ in New Movie
Karla Sofía Gascón has found her next movie project.
Gascón played the titular character in 2024’s Emilia Pérez. She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance; however, following her nomination, she quickly became a controversial figure when a number of her old tweets resurfaced. Prior to that, she won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress, the European Film Award for Best Actress, and was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globe Awards, among other accolades.
Per Variety, it has now been announced that Gascón will star in a new psychological thriller movie titled The Life Lift, which is being directed by Stefania Rossella Grassi.
What do we know about Karla Sofía Gascón’s character in The Life Lift?
Gascón will play a psychiatrist who “embodies both God and the devil” in the movie. Further character details remain under wraps at this time.
The movie will also star Vincent Gallo as Gabriel, a “tormented character” who “lives in a small New York apartment and becomes persecuted by Post-its left in the building’s elevator. These messages order him to commit atrocious murders of three other tenants who, in turn, want to kill their next-of-kin.”
Grassi co-wrote the screenplay alongside Tommaso Scutari. She is also producing the movie, described as “perturbing, livid and hypnotic,” alongside Carmela Arena.
The Life Lift is expected to begin filming at the end of 2025 until February 2026. It has a roughly $3 million budget.
Gascón is also set to star Spanish-language movie titled Las Malas, which is directed by Armando Bó. Additionally, she’ll soon be seen in an Italian comedy titled Men and Other Inconveniences, which was filmed before Emilia Pérez and is directed by Giorgio Serafini.
A release date for The Life Lift has not yet been announced.
