MacGruber Director Recalls R-Rated Joke Val Kilmer Rejected in Will Forte Comedy Movie
MacGruber director Jorma Taccone is recalling a joke that Val Kilmer refused to do.
MacGruber is an action comedy movie that was released in the United States in 2010. Based on the Saturday Night Live sketch of the same name, the film stars Will Forte as the titular character while Kilmer plays the movie’s antagonist, Dieter Von Cunth.
Kilmer — who is known for playing Iceman in Top Gun and Bruce Wayne in Batman Forever, among many other roles — recently passed away earlier this month from pneumonia at age 65.
What R-rated joke did Val Kilmer reject in MacGruber?
Taccone recalled in an episode of The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast, via Entertainment Weekly, “There was one joke, though, that he refused to do. We did want to cut his penis off and shove it in his mouth. That was the one joke that he did not wanna do.”
Meyers added, “I think now, it’s especially a good decision on his part. I think it’d be even harder to talk about him now [if] you guys made this poor person do this.”
Taccone also said of working with Val Vilmer on MacGruber, “It was shocking, honestly, just for all of us being just such massive fans. Top Secret, to me, was the first movie that I saw where I watched it and was doubled over most of the time. I can’t remember how old I was watching, but thinking, like, ‘I didn’t know that adults could be this funny. So just to have this man who was such a part of our childhoods and that movie across from us, and then finding out that he was reading it entirely cold and just crushing. Yeah.”
MacGruber is currently available to rent or purchase on digital streaming services such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.
