
Disney’s Snow White Remake Banned in Lebanon Over Gal Gadot
Disney’s Snow White remake has been banned in Lebanon due to Gal Gadot‘s inclusion in the film, according to a new report from Deadline.
Why is Snow White banned in Lebanon?
According to the report, the Israeli actress is included in the country’s official boycott list. As a result, Ahmad Hajjar, Lebanon’s Interior Minister, recommended the film be banned in the country, according to newspaper An-Nahar. This isn’t the first title Gadot has been in to be banned in Lebanon. Previously, movies like Wonder Woman and Death On The Nile were also banned in the country.
Prior to her work as a model and actress, Gadot — who was born and grew up in Israel — served in the Israel Defense Forces, a mandatory military service. Since her rise to stardom, Gadot has also been an outspoken supporter of Israel, especially in the years after the country’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza.
Alongside Gadot, Snow White also stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White, Andrew Burnap as Jonathan and Martin Klebba as Grumpy. Directed and produced by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson, the project is expands the story and music from the original. La La Land and The Greatest Showman duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul wrote new songs for the adaptation.
“Disney’s Snow White is a live-action musical reimagining of the classic 1937 film. The magical music adventure journeys back to the timeless story with beloved characters Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, and Sneezy,” reads the synopsis.
This project is part of Disney’s growing list of upcoming live-action projects, including Moana, Hercules, Lilo & Stitch, and Bambi.
