Nicholas Galitzine & Bill Skarsgård Lead Netflix WWII Movie Mosquito Bowl

Nicholas Galitzine and Bill Skarsgård have been tapped to star in Netflix’s planned World War II movie Mosquito Bowl. The project hails from the director behind American Primeval, Peter Berg.

Details about Galitzine and Skarsgård’s roles are still being kept close to the vest. Mosquito Bowl serves as a film adaptation of Buzz Bissinger’s New York Times bestseller The Mosquito Bowl: A Game of Life and Death in World War II. The adaptation is penned by Berged, alongside Mark L. Smith.

What is Mosquito Bowl about?

Per the project’s plot description (via Deadline), Mosquito Bowl is “set after the attack on Pearl Harbor, when four of America’s top college football stars set their fame aside to enlist in the Marines. As they prepare for the brutal invasion of Okinawa, they play in a legendary game featuring some of the greatest players in history – a game that, for many, will be the last they ever play.”

The film’s producers include Film 44’s Berg, Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, and Alex Gayner, with Ezra Emanuel serving as the executive producer. Film 44 has recently renewed its deal with Netflix following Berg’s hit Western television miniseries, American Primeval.

Two of the most sought-after actors of this generation, both Galitzine and Skarsgård have made a name for themselves by starring in a number of hit films. Galitzine (whose first on-screen roles include Chambers, High Strung, and Handsome Devil) gained mainstream attention for his role in Netflix’s romantic drama Purple Hearts.

Since then, Galitzine went on to venture into one project to another — this includes Bottoms, Red, White & Royal Blue, The Idea of You, and the historical drama Mary & George. He can next be seen as He-Man in Amazon’s upcoming Masters of the Universe adaptation, set for release in 2026.

Meanwhile, Skarsgård — known for his portrayal of Pennywise in the two It features — is best known for starring in various horror movies and television shows, including Hemlock Grove, Castle Rock, Villains, Barbarian, and Nosferatu. He is set to reprise his Pennywise role in HBO’s upcoming It spin-off series, It: Welcome to Derry.

Skarsgård can most recently be seen in Locked, opposite Anthony Hopkins. His other credits include John Wick: Chapter 4, Boy Kills World, Deadpool 2, The Divergent Series: Allegiant, and more.
