
The Crazies & Kick-Ass 4K SteelBook Release Date Set for Lionsgate Movies
The release date for The Crazies and Kick-Ass 4K and Blu-ray SteelBooks has officially been announced for the upcoming limited edition sets of Lionsgate‘s popular 2010 movies, which are both celebrating their respective 15th anniversaries this year. Pre-orders will be available at the Lionsgate Limited website.
When is The Crazies and Kick-Ass 4K and Blu-ray release date?
The Crazies and Kick-Ass will both be available for purchase on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray formats, which will each include exclusive SteelBook artwork. Both limited edition sets will be released on home entertainment shelves starting on May 13, 2025 for $44.99 and $43.99, respectively.
“In a small Midwestern town, residents turn violent when a mysterious toxin in the water supply turns everyone exposed to it into mindless killers,” reads the official synopsis for The Crazies. Trapped in a town they no longer recognize and abandoned by the authorities, Sheriff Dutton and his pregnant wife Judy struggle to survive in this nightmarish tale that continues to have a long-lasting impact on the horror genre.
The Crazies was directed by Breck Eisner from a screenplay written by Scott Kosar and Ray Wright, based on the George A. Romero’s 1973 sci-fi horror movie of the same name. Starring Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Joe Anderson, and Danielle Panabaker, the film tells the terrifying story of the American Dream gone horribly wrong. It currently holds a 72% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

“It follows a comic book-obsessed teen who reinvents himself as a crime-fighting hero, with one glaring problem: he has no training or actual superpowers,” reads the synopsis for Kick-Ass. “In a near-death confrontation with a ruthless drug dealer, Kick-Ass is rescued by a pair of costumed, highly skilled vigilantes — Big Daddy and his daughter, Hit Girl. When they all join forces along with another rookie avenger called Red Mist, a brutal mobster and object of Big Daddy’s vengeance pushes their alliance and skills to the brink.”
Kick-Ass was based on Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.’s Marvel comic book series of the same name. The superhero comedy was directed by Matthew Vaughn, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jane Goldman. It featured Aaron Taylor- Johnson, Nicolas Cage, and Chloë Grace Moretz as vigilantes, who teamed up against Mark Strong’s mob boss Frank D’Amico. It received a Certified Fresh rating of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 265 reviews.
