Florence Pugh on Why Thunderbolts* Should Be Picked Over Avengers

Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and other cast members of the upcoming MCU feature Thunderbolts* discussed why people should select their titular collective over the Avengers to get the job done in a recent interview. Notably, while the Avengers is made up of Earth’s mightiest heroes, the Thunderbolts members are a ragtag group of secret operatives, assassins, washed-up national icons, and former antagonists.

Why you should choose Thunderbolts* for a mission over the Avengers

The cast of Thunderbolts* spoke on why their eponymous team should be picked over the Avengers for a “secret mission” during an interview with Fandango. “It would mean a lot more to us,” David Harbour, who portrays Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian in the movie, humorously said, adding, “A win would mean a lot more to us.”

Florence Pugh, who stars as Yelena Belova, elaborated, “And it’s not conventional. We’re going to find a really awful way of doing it. There will be plenty of broken walls, and [property damage] but we’ll get it done with style.” This prompted the rest of the cast to add, “And personality.”

Pugh stated that their team could use some “fine-tuning,” but the Thunderbolts members didn’t actually listen to anybody. The interviewer then observed that the Thunderbolts were cheaper to afford upfront than the Avengers, but the insurance premium would go up after they were done with the mission. The cast and the interviewer agreed that this trait of the Thunderbolts was “fun to watch,” prompting Wyatt Russell, who plays John Walker / U.S. Agent, to quip, “High insurance premiums are awesome.”

When asked how many stars the Thunderbolts would get as a group on Yelp, Russell joked, “Three and a half.”

Besides those mentioned above, Thunderbolts* also stars Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov / Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr / Ghost, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. The movie debuts in U.S. theaters on May 2, 2025.
