Eddington is the new A24 movie that is written and directed by Ari Aster. Releasing in United States theaters this coming July, the film stars Pedro Pascal, Joaquin Phoenix, and more.

“In May of 2020, a standoff between a small-town sheriff (Phoenix) and mayor (Pascal) sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico,” the official synopsis reads.

What happens in the Eddington trailer?

The Eddington trailer sees Phoenix’s character lying in bed and scrolling through Instagram on his phone. Phoenix plays a sheriff of a small town in New Mexico in the film, and he scrolls past a video in which he says, “If you value your life, you should think twice because the people of Eddington like guns.”

Austin Butler and Emma Stone are in other videos that Phoenix’s character scrolls past, along with Pascal, who says, “I’m ready to continue leading our town and fighting the pandemic.”

The cast of the movie also includes Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Clifton Collins Jr., William Belleau, Cameron Mann, Matt Gomez Hidaka, and Amélie Hoeferle.

Aster made his feature film directorial debut in 2018 with Hereditary. He followed that up with Midsommar in 2019 before then making Beau Is Afraid, which starred Phoenix, in 2023. All three of those movies were released through A24. Additionally, Aster produced 2023’s Dream Scenario with Nicolas Cage and served as an executive producer on 2024’s Sasquatch Sunset, 2025’s Death of a Unicorn, and more. He’s also attached to produce Yorgos Lanthimos’ new movie, Bugonia, which is an English-language remake of 2003’s Save the Green Planet! It will star Stone, Jesse Plemons, and Alicia Silverstone.

Eddington will be released in United States theaters on July 18, 2025, from A24.
