Under Paris 2 Gets Exciting New Update for Shark Movie Sequel
The French action-horror film Under Paris really made a splash on Netflix. In its first week, the shark movie hit #1 on the streaming service with more than 40 million views. Five months after an announcement came for sequel plans, there’s an exciting new update for Under Paris 2.
In the French disaster flick, Under Paris had Parisians swim for their life after the Seine became infested with blood-thirsty sharks. The movie received a 63% on Rotten Tomatoes with mixed reviews. Critics praised the film as a fun contribution to the shark genre. Others said the plot went all over the place and wishing the fishy plot didn’t take itself too seriously.
As the Netflix movie achieved big numbers in its first week, it’s no wonder Under Paris is getting a sequel. As the original movie ended with a major cliffhanger, it’ll be interesting to see what will happen in the sequel.
What’s the Latest Under Paris 2 update?
When Under Paris 2 was first announced, director Xavier Gens said the sequel would have Paris “entirely submerged under water.” With five months of no news about the sequel, Variety revealed that the upcoming Netflix movie is “at the script stage.”
Under Paris 2 could be taking awhile because Xavier Gens is prepping a nine-week shoot for Lady Chang. Picked up by Prime Video, the Thailand-set thriller follows a former French war photographer who seeks healing from her PTSD at an elephant sanctuary. When caught in a web of trafficking, this allows the lead to fight for justice at great personal risk. With production of Lady Chang kicking off on May 12, it’s possible the script for Under Paris 2 won’t be ready until production for the Prime Video thriller ends.
Until then, you can watch one of the streamer’s top non-English language films on Netflix.
