Star Wars Horror Movie or Show in Development, Says Andor Creator
Andor creator Tony Gilroy says a Star Wars horror project is in the works at Lucasfilm.
Gilory is known for being the creator, showrunner, and head writer of Disney’s Andor. The first season of the Star Wars series, which serves as a prequel to 2016’s Rogue One, premiered in September 2022, while the second and final season is now scheduled to debut later this month.
What did Andor’s Tony Gilroy say about the Star Wars horror project?
Speaking to Business Insider, Gilroy was asked what he would do if he were hired to helm a Star Wars project set within the horror genre for Lucasfilm and Disney.
Gilroy, however, said that he believes there’s already one in development.
“They’re doing that,” he said. “I think they’re doing that. I think that’s in the works, yeah.”
Gilroy didn’t specify whether this unnamed project will be a movie or television show. No further details are available at this time, as Disney did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment.
The next Star Wars movie will be The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is being directed by Jon Favreau. That film serves as a continuation of The Mandalorian Disney+ series with Pedro Pascal and is currently scheduled to be released on May 22, 2026.
A number of other Star Wars movies are also in various stages of development, though none of them have release dates at this time.
Andor Season 2, meanwhile, premieres on Disney+ on April 22, 2025, with three new episodes. Following that, three new episodes will be released every week, with the final three of the series then arriving on May 13, 2025.
“Andor Season 2 will see the characters and their relationships intensify as the horizon of war draws near and Cassian becomes a key player in the Rebel Alliance,” the synopsis reads. “Everyone will be tested and, as the stakes rise, the betrayals, sacrifices, and conflicting agendas will become profound.”
