Moana 2 Achieves Streaming Record as 2025’s Most Watched Movie
Disney’s Moana 2 continues to set new records by recently securing more viewership count in a single week than any other feature film on any streaming platform this year. The animated sequel follows the journey of the titular Moana, as she embarks on a quest to the seas of Oceania after receiving an unexpected message from her wayfinding ancestors. The film made its digital premiere on March 12 on Disney+ and has now become the most-streamed movie in a single week of 2025.
Moana 2 was almost watched for 2 billion minutes in one week
As per the data provided by a renowned media audience measurement firm, Moana 2 has ranked first in the streaming rankings for the week of March 10 to March 16.
According to Nielsen’s report, the film recorded just shy of 2 billion viewing minutes, which is at least 600 million minutes more than what the second-placed Reacher series managed in the same period.
Consequently, Moana 2 successfully dethroned Netflix’s Back in Action, which secured 1.54 billion minutes in January, as the film with the most single-week watch time in 2025. Additionally, the Disney sequel’s success helped boost the streaming viewership count of its predecessor to an impressive 223 million for the said week. The evident popularity of the fan-favorite sequel on the digital front sits in line with its box-office performance. The Auli’i Cravalho-led film garnered more than $1 billion on the global stage.
However, it is important to note that Nielsen only accounts for viewership acquired through TV sets. It fails to include the minutes of mobiles or other devices.
Other than Disney’s Moana 2 and Amazon Prime Video’s Reacher, other original titles that recorded impressive statistics for the March 10-March 16 week include The Electric State, The White Lotus, Kraven the Hunter, and more. Meanwhile, Family Guy and Grey’s Anatomy also continued their dominance on the streaming front as the two most-viewed acquired titles for the week.
