Minecraft Movie Viewers Continue to Trash Theaters & Wreak Havoc

The recent success of A Minecraft Movie, starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, has initiated the viral ‘Chicken Jockey’ trend on TikTok, which has led audiences to trash the theaters. Directed by Jared Hess, the film follows the journey of four misfits, who inadvertently travel to Outerworld, a foreign cubic land. They subsequently join hands to plan their escape under the guidance of an expert crafter named Steve. One of the game’s rare references has ended up making it into the movie, causing fans to react to it in an extremely excited yet concerning manner.

Minecraft’s Chicken Jockey trend continues to wreak havoc in movie theaters

The sandbox game-inspired A Minecraft Movie includes a sequence that sees an infant zombie riding on the back of a chicken. The scene is an ode to the “chicken jockey” bit in Minecraft, which happens to be an extremely infrequent occurrence in the video game.

With the reference catching Minecraft fans by surprise, they have expressed their delight by throwing food and drinks all over the theaters, trashing the establishments in the process. For instance, one user shared a video on X (formerly Twitter), capturing moviegoers throwing huge amounts of popcorn around the establishment.

Another such video features one enthusiast holding an actual chicken on the advent of the said scene while others around him threw popcorn everywhere. The individual was eventually kicked out of the theater for his antics. Similar happenings at a few other theaters across the UK have even warranted the intervention of police.

Even cinema employees have come out to share the added difficulties they had to face in A Minecraft Movie screenings due to the chicken jockey trend. In a Reddit thread, one such Apple Cinemas employee highlighted the problem of viewers trashing the theaters, noting, “I see everyone saying to ‘just kick them out,’ which is what we usually do, but the issue is I can never pin point a single person doing it rather the whole theater is collectively talking and being loud.”

While the exaggerated fan reaction has caused some cinemas to issue warnings for the public, others have noted that the ‘theater-trashing’ response is only a rare occurrence.
