Shadow Force Release Date Delayed for Kerry Washington & Omar Sy Action Movie

Lionsgate has officially changed the Shadow Force release date for its upcoming action thriller about a former special forces couple who gets hunted down by their old team. The movie is led by Emmy winner Kerry Washington as Kyrah and Golden Globe nominee Omar Sy as Isaac.

“In the film, Kyrah and Isaac were once the leaders of a multinational special forces group called Shadow Force,” reads the official synopsis. “They broke the rules by falling in love, and in order to protect their son, they go underground. With a large bounty on their heads, and the vengeful Shadow Force hot on their trail, one family’s fight becomes all-out war.”

When is the new Shadow Force release date?

Originally scheduled for a May 2 release, Shadow Force has been pushed back for a week and will now arrive in theaters on May 9, 2025. The movie will be debuting in the same month as other high-profile movies such as Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*, Warner Bros.’ Final Destination: Bloodlines, Paramount Pictures’ Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Disney’s Lilot & Stitch, and more.

Shadow Force is directed by Joe Carnahan, who co-wrote the screenplay with Leon Chills. Joining Washington and Sy are Mark Strong (Shazam!), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers), Cliff “Method Man” Smith (Power Book II: Ghost), Yoson An (Mulan), Natalia Reyes (Terminator: Dark Fate), Sala Baker (The Killer), and more. When the project was first announced, it was likened to the box office hit Mr. & Mrs. Smith, described as a fresh take on the 2005 action-comedy. In addition to leading the cast, Washington is also producing alongside Stephen “Dr.” Love and Sterling K. Brown. The latter was originally cast for the lead role but later decided to stay on as a producer.
